In August 2016, Provincial legislation has been proclaimed to update the Public Accountants Act as well as create the Chartered Professional Accountants of Nova Scotia organization (CPANS).    This has resulted in substantive changes in the definition of “public accounting” and the requirements and process for obtaining and retaining the right to perform public accounting services in Nova Scotia.

To provide clear guidance and ensure those persons performing public accounting are in compliance with the new legislation and standards, a document has been prepared to provide this guidance.      All current licensees, as well as those considering applying for a license for the first time, are directed to read this document.     It contains important information for the 2018 license year.      Be sure to also check with CPANS to confirm their certification process and timelines which are now coordinated with the PABNS licensing process.
